Débora Cóbar has a wide-ranging academic background. She is a medical doctor and has a master’s degree in Social Development, specialising in decentralisation and local government.
Before joining Plan International, Débora was the First Lady of Guatemala’s child rights advisor from 1994 to 1996 and then the national Child Rights Ombudsman from 1998 to 2000.
In 2000, she joined Plan International as the regional Child Rights Adviser in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2010, she became Country Director for Plan International Guatemala and in 2018 became Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.
