Girls in emergencies

The world is failing girls in crisis situations — but we won’t.

In conflict zones, climate-related disasters and humanitarian crises, girls face more risks and fewer choices. They are disproportionately affected by displacement, hunger and violence.

Despite these threats, girls are not backing down. They are leading change, raising their voices and demanding a future where they are safe, educated and free.

Research series: Adolescent girls in crisis

This series of research reports captures the voices and experiences of adolescent girls in protracted crises across the world.

Supporting girls during crises

We stand with girls — not just in one moment, but through every stage of crisis and recovery.

We deliver lifesaving support and long-term solutions that protect girls and empower them to thrive. Our approach is holistic, locally rooted and girl-led:

  • Health and nutrition: Maternal care, clean water, food and sexual and reproductive health services.
  • Climate resilience: Girl-led advocacy, clean energy projects and disaster preparedness.

From mobile classrooms in conflict zones to safe spaces for survivors of violence, our work ensures girls are protected, educated and heard — even in the darkest moments.

We are also a committed member of global coordination bodies:

  • IASC Gender Reference Group
  • GBV Call to Action (Steering Committee Member, 2021–2023)
  • APAC Regional Gender in Humanitarian Action Group (Co-chair with UN Women)

Our global impact in 2024

  • 3.2 million girls reached through our humanitarian response work.
  • 4 policy wins: Laws, regulations and guidelines changed to protect and promote girls’ rights.
  • 4 financial commitments: Increased investment, budget allocations and strengthened systems and services for girls.

When girls are safe, supported and empowered, the ripple effect is limitless. Families grow stronger, communities thrive and a future where we are all equal becomes possible.

Join us in standing with girls — in every emergency, every time.
