Translating CSE Commitments into Action

23 July 2021

A tool to support governments to successfully and meaningfully implement comprehensive sexuality education (CSE).

Translating

In recent years, there has been considerable momentum on improving access to and implementation of CSE, both within schools and in out-of-school settings and across both development and humanitarian settings.

Political action for CSE has increased including new commitments to deliver CSE by many governments at the ICPD25 Nairobi Summit in 2019, at the Paris Generation Equality Forum in July 2021 and within the G7 Girls’ Education Declaration of June 2021 as well as within regional and national frameworks.

However, whilst strong technical guidance on CSE exists and political will is growing, many countries face challenges when seeking to successfully implement CSE.

The aim of this tool is to provide a range of strategies that governments can use to translate their commitments on CSE into tangible action. It provides guidance and practical tips on all stages of the implementation process, from policy-making and budgeting, through to stakeholder and community engagement, content-setting, and accountability mechanisms.

We hope that this tool will be a useful resource to drive progress on implementing CSE across the world – with a view to ensuring that all children, adolescents and young people have access to CSE wherever they live, without discrimination.
