Including Children with Disabilities in Preschool Education

Including Children with Disabilities in Preschool Education: Experiences of Plan International Mozambique
28 August 2018

This report recounts the experiences of a project focused on adapting existing community preschools in Mozambique to be disability-inclusive and includes a set of practical recommendations for action, useful for other countries and contexts.

This report recounts the experiences of a project focused on adapting existing community pre-schools so that they are disability-inclusive. The project is notable for how it engaged community-based rehabilitation workers and families, and for how the community preschool educators were supported to work not only with children with mild/moderate disabilities but also with children with severe or multiple disabilities. The project was very short – spanning only a year. Even so, it has provided rich learning – both about what works as well as the challenges – from which the team has developed a set of practical recommendations for action, useful for other countries and contexts.

The project was a partnership between Plan International Mozambique, Uhambo Foundation (South Africa), Light for the World and Plan International Finland.
