Three aid workers killed in Sudan
20 December 2024We are devastated by reports that three World Food Programme aid workers in Sudan have been killed in an aerial bombardment. Aid workers are protected under International Humanitarian Law, and must never be a target.
Responding to reports that three aid workers from the World Food Programme have been killed in Sudan’s Blue Nile State after an aerial bombardment, Mohammed Qazilbash, Country Director for Plan International Sudan said:
“We are devastated by reports three aid workers for the WFP in Sudan have been killed. Humanitarian workers are protected under International Humanitarian Law and must never be a target in any conflict.
“This tragedy underlines yet again the unacceptable risks that humanitarian workers face are facing in conflicts around the world, and are taking every day in order to reach children, their families and communities with life-saving support.
“Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives yesterday, and we stand in solidarity with them. We implore all parties to respect International Humanitarian Law and support calls for a thorough investigation.”
