Healthy start: immunisation for under 5s
This programme aims to ensure that mothers give birth to healthy children under adequate conditions and that children survive the first 5 critical years of their life.
We aim to empower mothers and families to take better care of their children’s health, to abandon harmful practices and to protect them from preventable diseases.
Learning for life: improving access to basic education
Through this programme, we encourage children of school age to go to school and we strive to ensure they have access to quality learning opportunities. This especially applies to girls and children who are still disadvantaged in terms of education opportunities.
Increasing access to adequate schools, improving infrastructure and sanitation, and facilitating basic school health care services such as de-worming are important elements of the programme.
Protection and participation
Children have the right to take part in decisions that affect their lives. This programme works with adolescents and youths to develop their capacity to advocate, to take action for child protection and participate at family, community and national levels.
With Plan’s support, Togolese children host live radio programmes on 2 community radio stations on a weekly basis. They debate with their peers, school inspectorates, police officers, and the local prosecutor etc, according to the topic or theme.
Plan Togo partner children’s clubs take an active role in speaking out on issues affecting children. For example, they have contributed to finalising the Togolese Children Code. Four out of 7 of their propositions were included in the document adopted by the National Assembly.
