Youth call on leaders to help build a fairer and safer world

A collective statement from over 60 girls and young people who have come together to let world leaders know the #FutureGirlsWant.

Youth Statement for the World Summit for Social Development

Right now, the world feels like it is burning and blooming at the same time – full of despair, but also full of hope.

We are standing at a crossroads between crisis and change, where climate disasters, inequality, and conflict are growing, but so is our determination to act. The world feels divided, fragile, and uncertain – yet full of potential if we act collectively, creatively, and with courage.

We are building a future where young people are heard, communities thrive, and justice, equality, and human rights are the foundation of every society. We dream of a world where peace, fairness, and compassion guide every action, and where no one is marginalised or silenced, and where girls grow up safe, empowered, and free from violence.

Act against injustice

To make this world a reality, we need leaders to walk the talk, value our ideas, and act against injustice.

We call on governments to invest in education, healthcare, social services, and youth-led initiatives, and to create policies that ensure inclusion, equality, and sustainability. Politicians should talk to young people before they decide on policies that directly affect them, especially when youth do not have the right to vote on those very policies.

We must change the way we treat our planet – our overconsumption, pollution, and disregard for ecosystems are pushing the Earth to a breaking point, and immediate action is needed to protect our environment for current and future generations. Governments must protect children and girls in conflict zones from violence, abuse, and exploitation, ensuring they have access to education and healthcare.

We need safe spaces to express our ideas freely, organise for change, learn from one another, and build communities, breaking down stigma on issues like mental health.

We refuse to accept a world where inequality, violence, and discrimination are normalised, and where young people are silenced instead of being heard and valued. Our rights are not negotiable, yet they are compromised, ignored, and traded away in political deals.

We will no longer wait our turn while our future is stolen.

We will no longer wait our turn while our future is stolen. We will no longer stand by while leaders make promises they never keep, and our communities suffer while those in power look away.

But we are not giving up.

We are ready to speak up, take action, and work together to build a fairer, safer, and more just world.
