Sudan landslide claims hundreds of lives

2 September 2025

In response to the landslide that has affected Tarsin village in Sudan’s West Darfur, Plan International Sudan’s Country Director Mohamed Kamal said:

“This terrible landslide has hit a remote, mountainous area where many had fled seeking safety from conflict, claiming hundreds of lives. Heavy rains continue to fall as we speak, compounding an already dire humanitarian situation caused by conflict, flooding and mass displacement, which has put children and families at grave risk.”

“Plan International Sudan is in contact with our teams in North Darfur and working urgently to reach children, families and communities with humanitarian assistance.”

“Children in Sudan were already facing immense challenges before this tragedy. The conflict must end, and urgent support is needed now to protect lives and help families recover.”
