Plan International calls for protection of humanitarian spaces in Gaza after partner’s office ransacked

1 August 2025

Plan International stands in solidarity with our partner organisation, Save Youth Future Society (SYFS) whose field office in Deir al-Balah, Gaza was forcibly entered and temporarily occupied by Israeli forces on 21 July 2025.

“Humanitarian spaces must be protected at all times. We reiterate our call that the humanitarian community must be allowed to operate safely.” Hamida Jahamah, Country Director, Plan International Jordan.

The office was subsequently ransacked, leading to the loss of essential supplies including ICT equipment, solar infrastructure, furniture and documents and severely impacting their already stretched capacity to deliver lifesaving assistance to displaced children and families in Gaza.

Humanitarian spaces must be protected

“Humanitarian spaces must be protected at all times and this serious incident constitutes a clear violation of International Humanitarian Law,” says Plan International Jordan’s Country Director Hamida Jahamah,

“We are enormously relieved that all SYFS staff and families that use the space are safe. However, the psychological toll and operational disruption are profound, for an organisation working tirelessly to provide life-saving assistance to the affected population in the Gaza strip. Despite this setback that has rendered the site non-operational, the team remains resilient and plan to continue delivering services both remotely and through alternative hubs.

“We reiterate our call that the humanitarian community must be allowed to operate safely and effectively and urge all parties to respect international law and ensure the protection of humanitarian personnel and infrastructure.

“Plan International stands firmly with SYFS and all humanitarian actors working under unimaginable conditions in Gaza and remain committed to ensuring support reaches those who need it most.”
