Leaders must act without delay as Amnesty report concludes genocide in Gaza
6 December 2024Responding to Amnesty International’s report concluding that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, Dr. Unni Krishnan, Global Humanitarian Director at Plan International said:
“Amnesty International has concluded that Israel is committing some of the worst crimes imaginable against Palestinians in Gaza. It comes after the UN Special Committee concluded that the policies and practices of Israel against Palestinians in Gaza are consistent with the characteristics of genocide.
Immediate, unconditional and complete ceasefire, now
“World leaders must act without delay and push for an end to this horrifying violence. We need an immediate, unconditional and complete ceasefire now, followed by full cooperation with international legal processes. We also reiterate our call for States to immediately halt all arms sales to Israel. The world cannot turn a blind eye while these arms devastate the lives of Palestinian children and other civilians in Gaza.
Justice for the Palestinians of Gaza
“We hope this report brings much-needed scrutiny to Israel’s brutal military campaign and helps end a culture of impunity that has allowed civilians to be deliberately starved, bombed, and massacred without accountability. At least 44,000 people have now been killed in Gaza, with children and women making up nearly 70 per cent of verified victims. This is a dark and distressing chapter in the modern history of our world, and for peace to be lasting and meaningful, it must be founded on justice for the Palestinians of Gaza, as well as for all civilians affected throughout the region.”
