Three months after the devastating earthquake that rocked Ecuador, we have been able to provide scholarships to young girls and boys affected by the disaster, ensuring they will have the opportunity to continue their education in the face of adversity.
Children go back to school
So far, 500 children across Manabi have been provided with a scholarship from Plan International. Families will be able to use the scholarship towards much needed school supplies, transportation, food, clothes and shoes.

Helping children recover
In addition to the scholarships, we continue to deliver much-needed aid and psycho-social support to those affected, having so far distributed 6,327 food kits and 4,972 hygiene kits.
Moreover, 23 child-friendly spaces have been created, providing a safe place for children to visit, whilst providing them with the opportunity to play, learn and do sports, which will help them develop resilience and deal with the trauma caused by the earthquake.

In partnership with UNICEF, Plan International has set up 3 temporary schools in Pedernales for 1,800 students to ensure they are still able to get an education.
Despite progress, we have determined that 5,000 scholarships, across 69 communities in Manabi province, are needed to assist children's return to school.
