October 2010: Millions of children protected from improved laws and thousands of teachers trained are among the achievements of Learn Without Fear - Plan’s global campaign to end violence in schools.
To mark the campaign’s second anniversary Plan has released a campaign progress report showing its successes – along with new research which reveals the enormous economic and social cost of violence in schools.
Active in 44 countries, Learn Without Fear's achievements include:
- protecting over 390,000,000 children with new legislation from violence
- training nearly 20,000 teachers in non-violent discipline techniques
- ensuring nearly 600,000 children have taken part in campaign activities
- reaching 94,000,000 people with campaign messages, through radio, television and theatre productions.
The campaign will build on progress to date and will continue to work towards a world where children do not need to fear going to school. As such, we reiterate our calls to governments to introduce and enforce legislation banning violence in schools and to invest in teacher training to promote positive discipline techniques.
Spread the word!
