“My path was never easy, but I realised that I had to fight for my own sake. Overcoming my health issues and the lack of parental love was tough, but I knew I had the potential to achieve great things. With the support of Right4Children and Plan International Nepal, I gained the skills and confidence to start my canteen business. Today, I stand as an example that with determination and effort, anyone can conquer obstacles and find happiness,” says Sandhya.

At 22 years old, Sandhya has faced and overcome many challenges on the road to becoming a successful businesswoman.

Since childhood, Sandhya has battled a severe heart problem, felt the void where the love and care of her parents could have been and encountered adversity from her own relatives and acquaintances, that pushed her toward the brink of depression.

Seizing opportunities and becoming independent

Despite the overwhelming challenges, Sandhya decided it was time to take control of her life. She realised that with effort, she could achieve great things.

Sandhya’s first triumph was successfully completing twelfth grade. Now, she faced the next obstacle – finding a means of generating income.

In 2022 the Ward Chairperson of Pokhara Metropolitan City visited Sandhya’s home. She introduced her to a non-governmental organisation called Right4Children, which, in collaboration with Plan International Nepal, offered skills training in how to become a salesperson.

Intrigued by the prospect of a better future, Sandhya reached out to Right4Children and enrolled in their training programme in 2022. Later, she was also given the opportunity to participate in a training programme related to business operations. Through these programmes, Sandhya acquired the skills and knowledge needed to run a business effectively.

A proud and successful entrepreneur

With newfound skills and full of determination, Sandhya decided to open a canteen near a school conveniently located near her home. After negotiations with the school management, she gained permission to proceed. With the support of Right4Children and Plan International Nepal, Sandhya acquired the essential equipment to start her canteen business.

In 2022, Sandhya’s canteen was started, and since then, she has been running it successfully. Not only has she managed to cover her expenses, but she’s also saved money in her personal bank account, understanding the importance of being able to save for her future. She’s ready to face any potential challenges that may arise.

Today, Sandhya is a proud and successful entrepreneur, running her canteen business. She holds her head high, even in the presence of those who once criticised and belittled her. She is a shining example of how a woman, when determined to confront life’s struggles and achieve something, can overcome any obstacle and find happiness.

Sandhya expresses her gratitude to Right4Children and Plan International Nepal for their invaluable support throughout her remarkable journey.
