14 July 2014: Raise your voice in support of girls’ education this Malala Day, 14 July.
It’s been a year since Malala, who was shot by the Taliban for being a schoolgirl, celebrated her 16th birthday by making a powerful speech at the first ever youth takeover of the United Nations in New York.
Young people from around the world - including a Plan-supported youth delegation – took part in the event, which inspired people across the globe in the fight for education for all.
As Malala marks her 17th birthday, she is calling on all girls and those who support girls’ education to post their own inspiring messages of what they are #StrongerThan and have overcome in their own fight for education.
Together we are #StrongerThan
"On my birthday last year - the very first 'Malala Day' - I stood before the UN and spoke up for girls' rights. You joined with letters, messages and photos of support. Thank you," says Malala.
"This year, we need to raise our voices even louder. I'm asking you to stand with me again on Malala Day, 14 July, to say: We are stronger than the enemies of education. We are stronger than fear, hatred, violence and poverty."
