This report details some of the achievements of Plan’s global Learn Without Fear campaign to end violence in schools since its launch in October 2008.

Two years later, the campaign is running in 44 countries. Children have been involved in all the aspects of the campaign from planning workshops to raising awareness activities.

The report demonstrates how Plan is taking steps to stop violence in schools and shows remarkable progress is being made, from legislative changes to innovative approaches such as training teachers to use positive discipline techniques instead of corporal punishment and using social media to reach out to communities.

Achievements include:

  • more than 390,000,000 children benefiting from legislation protecting them from violence in schools
  • nearly 20,000 teachers trained in non-violent discipline techniques
  • 36 countries able to show anecdotal impact of teacher training on behaviour
  • 23 countries showing reduction in girls’ school dropout rates in campaign areas
  • 94,000,000 people reached by campaign messages through radio and television shows.
