Bal Kumari is leading beyond barriers
Bal Kumari, a young entrepreneur who is deaf, took on the role of Ambassador at the Finnish Embassy for a day.
This is a youth-led podcast created by the Youth Advisory Council, sharing real stories and bold conversations with young people and experts who are leading change across the country.
In a bold step towards creating a space where youth voices take centre stage, Plan International Nepal has officially launched its new podcast series, Suna Saathi Mero Katha – Your Experience, Your Story. This 15-episode video podcast series is designed to highlight the lived realities, struggles, and victories of adolescent girls and young people in Nepal who are leading change in their communities.
Suna Saathi Mero Katha has been envisioned as more than just a podcast. It is a platform where young content creators, activists, artists, and advocates from across the country bring personal narratives and critical social issues to the forefront. Topics include bodily autonomy, child marriage, digital safety, climate justice, artivism, gender identity, and more.
The series is hosted by members of Plan International Nepal’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC), with the support of local youth clubs and Champions of Change (CoC) groups, ensuring the tone, language, and content are youth-friendly, inclusive, and rooted in lived experience.
“Hosting this podcast means everything to me,” shared Smarika, the host of the first episode.“It’s not every day that girls like me get to lead a national conversation on issues that directly affect us. I hope listeners, especially other young people, feel seen, heard, and inspired.”

The podcast was developed through a collaborative and participatory process, including workshops with young girls, field visits to Bardiya, Jumla, Dhanusha, and Janakpur, and the involvement of over 50 young people during the design phase. Each episode includes interviews, storytelling, visual elements, and sometimes even games, making it both informative and engaging.
From discussing climate activism and youth-led movements to unpacking complex issues like gender-based violence and safe online spaces, young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, the series is committed to tackling hard topics with empathy, clarity, and authenticity.
The first episode, which aired on 20 June, features Ram Kishan, Country Director of Plan International Nepal, in conversation with Smarika, a member of the YAC and the podcast’s host. The episode set the tone for what promises to be a deeply engaging and honest series, touching on themes of leadership, inclusion, and the power of youth-led storytelling.
“This podcast is not just about stories, it’s about power, perspective, and possibility,” said Ram Kishan. “At Plan International Nepal, we believe in creating platforms where young people, especially girls, are not only heard but are leading the conversation. I’m incredibly proud to see our YAC members at the helm of this series.”

The launch is being supported by a strong digital campaign, and Plan International Nepal’s regional offices are mobilising local partner organisations and CoC groups to ensure the podcast reaches adolescents, parents, educators, and policymakers alike.
We are encouraging everyone to engage with the podcast, share feedback, and use the content to spark conversations within their communities.
“Because your story matters. And it deserves to be shared.”
