Storming the Norms
This #StormingtheNorms booklet shares the stories of 12 young people from Nepal, mostly girls, who turned skills into livelihoods and are shaping their own futures. Their journeys show that when girls learn, earn, and lead, entire communities change.

This #StormingtheNorms booklet shares the inspiring stories of 12 young people, mostly girls and young women from different parts of Nepal, who have learned new skills and started their own small businesses.
Many of them come from communities where girls are not expected to work, speak up, or follow their dreams. Some have faced discrimination because of their disability, gender identity, caste, or where they live. But through courage and support, they are proving what girls can achieve when given the chance.
These girls and young women took part in Plan International Nepal’s Skills and Opportunities for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship (SOYEE) programme. They learned practical skills, like tailoring, mobile repair, beauty care, or farming, and also important life skills such as confidence, saving money, and making decisions. Now, they are earning their own income, supporting their families, and becoming role models in their communities.
At the heart of this work is our belief that every girl has the right to learn, earn, and live her life with dignity and freedom. Helping girls become economically independent is a powerful way to stop child, early, and forced marriage and make sure they have more choices for their future.
This booklet is part of our promise:
All girls standing strong creating a just world, until we are all equal.
We hope these stories inspire families, leaders, and communities to support more girls in learning skills, starting businesses, and building the life they dream of.
