The Journey of a Recommendation

The impact of girl-led activism on local issues and global advocacy

These case studies, part of the report The Journey of a Recommendation, prove that when young women and girls lead, they don’t just fill a seat, they open doors, shift power, and create change that reaches far beyond the UN.

The case studies in this report, The Journey of a Recommendation, tell the story of Plan International’s country offices and their programming that support child and youth empowerment, and the work of Plan International’s UN Geneva team who facilitate meaningful youth participation at the Human Rights Council and other UN Treaty Bodies, enabling child and young advocates to engage directly with global decision-makers and influence policy-making discussions.

These case studies also prove that when young women and girls lead, they don’t just fill a seat, they open doors, shift power, and create change that reaches far beyond Geneva and other UN forums. When girls present their concerns to the international community at the UN, they don’t just speak, they lead.
