The beginning of June the world’s largest conference on gender equality and the health, rights, and wellbeing of girls and women called ‘Women Deliver’ will take place in Vancouver. For the fifth time, the two-day conference brings together more than 6,000 world leaders, influencers, advocates, academics, activists, and journalists with the drive to accelerate progress for girls and women everywhere. Of course, Plan International will be there to power the movement for girls to change the world. The “Power Party” we will be organizing wants to address fundamental power imbalances stressing the “nothing about her, without her” principle which is pivotal to ensure #GirlsGetEqual.
As Serap Altinisik, Head of Plan International EU Office, emphasizes, “It’s crucial to share your power, because when more female and diverse voices are heard, political choices and decisions are fairer and better for all”. Plan International’s power party will bring together girls to talk about their leadership aspirations, how they experience their pathways to power and how current position holders could contirbute. The Women Deliver conference with the many leaders therefore presents an occasion to bring girls’ voices to the debate and make them understand the role they can play to advance gender equality globally by simply committing to #ShareYourPower.
