The not-so-silent impact of the humanitarian crisis in northern Mozambique
Girls and young women are hit especially hard by the ongoing conflict in northern Mozambique, in a crisis which receives little international attention despi…
Plan International has been operating in Mozambique since 2006.
Working together with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. We ensure marginalised children and young people realise their full potential and contribute significantly to the development of their communities.
To achieve our goals, we place the rights of children at the centre of our work and partner with like-minded organisations to influence the country’s decision makers.
Mozambique has among of the highest rates of child marriage and teenage pregnancy in the world. These issues are related to structural drivers of poverty as well as harmful social norms that prevent girls from realising their rights, including access to quality education and economic opportunities.
We are currently working in the provinces of Sofala, Inhambane and Nampula. In Sofala, we work in Búzi and Nhamatanda districts. In Inhambane, we are working in the districts of Jangamo, Govuro, Panda and Homoine. In Nampula, we are working in the city of Nampula and districts of Rapale, Mogovolas, Meconta and Moma.
We won’t stop until we are all equal.
Our current priorities include:
