Into The Light

Overview

This study sheds light on the often-ignored population of migrants, focusing on a group of young Cambodian migrant women in Thailand working in the seafood sector.

In the labour market, gender-based discrimination, harmful traditional practices, restricted opportunities and the lower value placed on women’s economic contributions often result in higher rates of unemployment among young women. However, issues faced by young migrants have been less addressed by migration literature and support programs.

This study was conducted as part of Stopping Exploitation through Accessible Services (SEAS of Change), with support from Plan International Finland, Plan International Sweden, Plan International USA, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), KESKO Corporation and the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation.
