Plan International Vietnam

Child, Female, Girl

Plan International’s earliest presence in Vietnam dates to 1954 and we became established in the northern and central regions in 1993.

In Vietnam, vulnerable groups suffer discrimination, especially girls and children with disabilities. This is driven by social traditions combined with a lack of access to services and investment.

Plan International Vietnam (PIV) has worked across six provinces (Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Kon Tum and Hanoi) in a total of 62 rural communes of 13 remote districts with its sponsorship and grant-funded projects. Since 2020, PIV has implemented over 80 grant and sponsorship-funded projects, including emergency and response activities such as targeted support during the COVID-19 period, 2020 flood response in central Vietnam, and 2023 Yagi Typhoon in North provinces of Vietnam.

We believe in the power and potential of every child but know this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face.

We won’t stop until we are all equal.

Our key areas of work include 3 intervention clusters:

1) Inclusive social services

Key portfolio areas:

  • Increase access of quality gender responsive, inclusive social services (including health, psycho-
social, education) for children and youth, particularly girls
  • Enhance girls’ and children’s mental well-being and access to SRHR services in communities and
    schools

2) Climate and disaster resilience
Key portfolio areas:

  • Promote locally-led gender responsive and inclusive climate change adaptation
  • Build community resilience to disasters
  • Promote gender-responsive local solutions for protection and conservation of natural resources

3) Economic empowerment focusing on youth market oriented vocational training and entrepreneurship
Key portfolio areas:

  • Leverage gender responsive career orientation and information to enable girls to make informed
    decisions about their future pathways
  • Improve youth’s access to employment through market-oriented technical and vocational education
    and training
  • Foster youth- and women-led small and micro business in rural and remote settings

By investing in these key areas, PIV aims to achieve two objectives:

  • Girls grow up physically and mentally healthy in safe and sustainable environments
  • Girls, young women and youth are ready to shape their sustainable future

With the aim of achieving the goal Girls, young women and youth of Vietnam are active drivers of change in realizing their rights to a green and sustainable future.
