  • #GirlsTakeover 2024 in the Asia Pacific region

#GirlsTakeover 2024 in the Asia Pacific region

Recap video

Celebrating International Day of the Girls – October 11th 2024, over 920 girls from 13 Country Offices took over key leadership positions.

The International Day of the Girl (IDG) emphasizes the potential of girls and young women to lead change. Celebrated annually on October 11, Plan International’s #GirlsTakeover initiative directly addresses systemic barriers hindering girls’ access to leadership roles. This initiative provides a platform for girls to challenge societal norms, step into decision-making positions, and advocate for gender equality and sustainable development, particularly in sectors such as climate action.

#GirlsTakeover 2024

Symbolic “takeovers” allow a girl or young woman to assume leadership roles in governments, corporations, and international organizations for a day, where she would lead discussions and initiatives around the global campaign theme for IDG. This initiative showcases their potential and encourages systemic change.

In the Asia Pacific region, 13 Country Offices conducted various “takeovers” and other events and initiatives around the theme #UniteInPeace. In total, over 920 girls were supported to takeover key leadership positions.
