On International Girls in ICT Day 2019, Plan International Vietnam, alongside partners FPT Polytechnic College and REACH, launched “Fit for Future”.
The “Fit for Future” project, launched on International Girls in ICT Day 2019, will encourage girls and women to study and work in the technology sector.
The project was launched at an event alongside partner organisations FPT Polytechnic College and REACH.
Supporting marginalised girls
“Fit for future” will run from March 2019 to August 2021 with funding from Adecco Group Foundation. The project will support 800 marginalised young people, especially girls and women, so they can work in the technology sector in the future.
Currently in Vietnam, like most of the rest of the world, the technology sector is dominated by men who account for 70-80% of the jobs in the field. In addition, women are often not perceived to have the necessary skills to be successful in technology related jobs.
Tech jobs are increasing
However, the number of jobs in this field in Vietnam is rising. It is estimated that by 2020, 530,000 positions will need filling but at current rates there will only be around 350,000 suitable applicants to fill them.
Therefore, by learning digital skills, girls will be able to fill the increasing number of tech jobs in Vietnam, closing the gender digital divide and helping girls to get equal.
