Plan International condemns sexual violence against girls in Al Jazirah, Sudan
We are deeply disturbed by the continued use of sexual violence against women and girls, amidst a conflict that is showing no signs of yielding.
Plan International Sudan has been working and operating for more than 45 years. Our goal is for vulnerable children and youth to realise their full potential in protective and resilient communities which respect and promote equality.
We work together with children, young people, communities, supporters and partners to tackle the root causes of gender inequalities, empower children and youth and effect necessary changes in policies, laws and practices.
There are many internally displaced people in Sudan as well as refugees from neighbouring countries due to protracted conflicts. In addition, the country’s economy is deteriorating, public expenditure on education and healthcare is shrinking and there is a high prevalence of child marriage and female genital mutilation.
We are committed to supporting vulnerable and marginalised children and their communities to be free from children’s’ rights violation, violence, gender inequality and poverty. We strengthen the ability of girls and young people to learn, lead, decide and thrive in their lives and communities.
We won’t stop until we are all equal.
Our current priorities include:
The areas of Sudan we work in are Kassala, White Nile, North Kordofan, South Kordofan, North Darfur and Khartoum. We will soon be expanding to work in the states of Red Sea and Al Gedarif.
