Patterns of violence against girls in Ecuador

Overview

Patterns of violence against girls in Ecuador (Executive Summary)

This study, led by Plan International with the support of the San Francisco University of Quito (USFQ), identifies dominant cultural patterns that contribute to violence within families and communities from indigenous communities in the Central Highlands of Ecuador.

Children, young people, parents and local authorities were questioned on their understanding and experience of gender based violence. The study also reveals that while boys are more exposed to physical violence, girls tend to suffer increased levels of sexual and psychological violence.
