My vision for a safe and equal future: An adolescent and youth-focused assessment on gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health and rights in Jordan

Research and practice suggest that female adolescents and youth are especially vulnerable to gender-based violence and violations of their sexual health rights in Jordan.

The large scale displacement related to the crisis in Syria is a contributing factor towards this. While gender inequality is understood to be the main factor causing violence against girls and women globally, the marginalised status of female adolescents and youth in society is also an important contributing factor.

This assessment firstly identifies the main violence and sexual health risks that adolescents and youth face in Jordan’s urban areas. Secondly, it identifies gaps in the current service provision for adolescents and youth in Jordan’s urban areas. Thirdly, it identifies solutions and the support needed to address the main needs and risks that adolescents and youth face in Jordan’s urban areas.

This assessment was launched in October 2018 in parallel with the International Day of the Girl to reiterate the efforts which are being made to defend girls’ rights and gender transformative work to challenge inequality.
