Autonomy in decision-making
We contribute to enabling children, girls, adolescents, and young people in all their diversity to make autonomous and informed decisions about their own bodies and lives, based on participation and the development of skills.
We advocate for the rights and autonomy of girls, so they can voice their opinions and take charge in creating the positive changes they aspire to see in their lives.
In the country, there is a high level of inequality that impacts the lives of children, adolescents and young people, depriving them of opportunities for the full development of their rights, especially among girls, adolescents, and women. This situation is exacerbated in indigenous and disabled populations.
Our objectives
- Children, girls, adolescents, and youth have positive attitudes, self-confidence, and leadership in the field of sexual and reproductive rights.
- Families and communities incorporate positive attitudes, values, and practices regarding the comprehensive health of children, adolescents, and young people.
- Duty bearers and health service providers implement measures to provide quality, inclusive, and gender-sensitive health services, complying with legal and policy frameworks, and regional/international agreements aimed at ensuring sexual and reproductive rights.
How we do it
- Strengthening the agency and protagonism of girls through the implementation of the Leadership School (training that integrates empowering values with education, fostering self-belief and leadership skills in rural girls and young women).
- Promoting the active participation of adolescents and young people in advisory councils in various locations across 4 departments.
- Sharing and transferring knowledge about sexual and reproductive health with public servants, such as health promoters and teachers.
- Training mothers, fathers, and caregivers of children and adolescents in open and horizontal dialogue spaces, promoting support in the development of positive and responsible life projects.
- Collaborating with duty bearers to amplify their impact, including improvements in the conditions of friendly clinics and family health units.
- Influencing public policies at the local and national levels, focusing on placing childhood and adolescences at the center of attention to create environments that recognise and value the voices of children and adolescents.
Target groups
- Children from 8 to 13 years old.
- Adolescents and youth from 14 to 18 years old, in all of their diversity.
- Young women and men from 19 to 24 years old.
Who we work with
- Parents, mothers, and families in general.
- Community leaders.
- Service providers: teachers, health professionals, police officers, healthcare personnel, CODENI (Municipal Councils for the Rights of Children and Adolescents), among others.
- Duty bearers: mayors, legislators, magistrates, governors, among others.
