2016 marks the first year of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development – a historic agreement which represents the most ambitious effort yet to reduce poverty, tackle inequality and injustice and protect the planet.
Girls must be at the heart of this framework – not only the goal dedicated to gender equality, but across all goals, targets and indicators. From access to education, to decent jobs, climate change and peace and security, every Goal has an important part to play in transforming girls’ and women’s lives.
How does it work?
Girls face multiple exclusions which act as barriers to their effective participation, yet it is crucial their views are both sought and listened to.
Through a year-long focus on Girls’ Voices, Plan International EU Office aims to helping ensure girls themselves are at the heart of the global movement for gender equality, in line with the organisation’s mission to advance girls’ rights.
By providing a platform for girls around the world to share their stories and ideas on the issues which matter to them, Girls’ Voices will help connect girls’ lived realities with the policy changes we seek so that girls everywhere can learn, lead, decide and thrive.
Girls' Voices will focus on five thematic issues for the year 2016:
- Girls in emergencies
- Economic empowerment
- Political empowerment
- Child protection
