The European Commission (EC) is one of Plan International’s primary institutional donors, providing funding through both its International Cooperation and Development (DevCo) and Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) Directorates-General.
European development assistance amounted to more than €74.4 billion in 2018[1], representing almost 57% of the total global development assistance by all OECD-DAC donors. ECHO is one of the major humanitarian donor active in over 40 countries. With an annual budget of over €1billion, ECHO provides support to more than 120 million people every year. As a result of their wide reach, they are able to provide regular updates on humanitarian needs and the provision of EU technical support.
Plan International currently implements 52 EU funded projects in 33 countries across Africa, Asia, MENA region and the Americas. In 2018 11 Development and 15 Humanitarian projects were added, amounting to over €50m.
