Child protection in China

Protecting children from all forms of violence

Plan International China is committed to protecting children from all forms of violence.

Child abuse cases have received a lot of media coverage recently, raising awareness of the issue across the country. Public interest is especially high as many of the cases reported have been incidences of sexual abuse against vulnerable children in schools and communities.

We place a high emphasis on the need to create a protective environment for vulnerable and marginalised children and we provide them with the facilities to realise their rights to protection from violence.

We contribute to the development of community and school-based child protection mechanisms and we encourage children’s participation in their own protection and formal child protection mechanisms. We work in partnership with communities, the government and other NGOs to ensure that boys and girls in our programme areas are better skilled to protect themselves, with increased access to child protection prevention and support services.
