A life of separation

More than 80% of students in secondary schools in Guangnan, China board from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon during the semester. Many don’t even go home on weekends since both parents are migrant workers. China is home to 268 million rural migrant workers leaving behind more than 60 million children.

The Great Chinese Bakeoff

Plan International China works with a number of partner organisations, including Shanghai Young Bakers. Accepted rural youth do one-year courses to learn all about baking and also brush up on their English knowledge, life skills and social etiquette to mould them into the next wave of star employees.
