Plan International responds to drone strike on office building in North Darfur

25 September 2025

Plan International confirms a drone strike on its vacated El-Fasher office on 23 September. No staff were harmed and the organisation remains committed to impartial humanitarian support in Sudan.

On 23 September a Plan International Sudan office building in El-Fasher, North Darfur, was hit by a drone strike. Fortunately, no Plan staff were harmed as the office had been vacated by the organisation at the onset of the conflict in April 2023.

“We urge all armed groups to refrain from targeting of civilians or from the use of weapons that risk indiscriminate harm to civilians.”

Reena Ghelani, Plan International’s Chief Executive Officer

The building continued to store Plan’s humanitarian assets and vehicles, and 3 Plan-employed security personnel guarding our humanitarian assets were present on site during the drone attack. We can confirm they are safe and unharmed.

We have not been operating any programmes from the building for over 2 years and any use of the premises in any other capacity is entirely unrelated to the organisation.

We remain committed to humanitarian support

We remain an impartial and independent humanitarian organisation working to support children and all civilians through this devastating conflict.

“As a child rights and humanitarian organisation working in over 7 states in Sudan, Plan International has been and remains a neutral and independent organisation working to support children and all communities in need. We urge all armed groups to refrain from targeting of civilians or from the use of weapons that risk indiscriminate harm to civilians,” remarked Reena Ghelani, Plan International’s Chief Executive Officer.
