Rapid gender analysis in Haiti
This report analyses the impact of the hunger crisis on the lives of children, women and adolescent girls in the northeast department of Haiti.
This rapid gender analysis was carried out by Plan International in the communes of Fort-Liberté, Ferrier and Capotille to understand the impact of the multi-sector emergency, especially food insecurity, on girls and young women in the northeast department of Haiti.
Its main objective was to analyse and understand the impact of the food crisis on:
- Sexual and reproductive health and rights
- Child protection
- Food security
- Water, hygiene and sanitation
- Livelihoods
- Nutrition
- Education.
The coping capacities and strategies of children and young people, and their current and future needs to continue to cope with the food crisis were also assessed.
Report overview
The study found that more than 68% of women and 85% of adolescent girls face acute risks to theirsafety, including reports of violence while traveling to school, accessing water or moving around communal areas.

Our response to Haiti crisis
Plan International has been responding to the hunger crisis in Haiti since 2022, supporting more than 25,000 people with cash transfers so they can buy food, pay school fees and meet their immediate needs.
In addition, we are raising awareness in communities about the importance of nutrition, gender equality and the protection of girls and children.
