Plan receives honour for water, sanitation and hygiene contributions

Plan International Ghana received a prestigious honor at the 35th Mole Conference, organised by the Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) in Ghana.
This annual event brought together prominent WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) stakeholders, including academics, researchers, traditional authorities, WASH experts and civil society organisations, to reflect on Ghana’s progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) for clean water and sanitation.
Plan Ghana’s contributions to WASH sector
Themed “Looking Back on the Implementation of SDG 6: Progress, Challenges, and Way Forward,” Plan International Ghana was recognised with a plaque and a citation for its outstanding contributions to sustainable WASH services and for positively transforming the lives of residents in beneficiary communities. The award also acknowledged Plan International’s ongoing support in strengthening CONIWAS and the overall WASH sector in Ghana.
During a session on “Institutional Alignment for Improved WASH Service Delivery,” Daniel Agbenoto, Project Manager for the Stronger Together initiative, introduced attendees to the project’s innovative interventions that are reshaping WASH service delivery. Mr. William Domapielle, Project Manager of the Integrated Package for Sustainable Development (I-PADEV), also shared the successes and impacts of the I-PADEV project, highlighting effective practices that have led to significant progress in communities. The I-PADEV Project is an integrated WASH initiative which seeks to creating a resilient and protective environment for better health and learning outcomes for children, especially girls, through equitable access to and effective utilisation of WASH, early childhood care and development, education, and health facilities and services.
WASH focused innovations
A key highlight of the event was a visit by the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, to Plan International Ghana’s booth at the Mole Conference exhibition. Here, team leads from the Stronger Together and I-PADEV projects presented an array of WASH-focused innovations, including the Village Savings and Loans Association-led WASH financing models, reusable sanitary pads, household latrine prototypes crafted from local materials, and hygiene kits produced by school health clubs.
The Minister praised the Stronger Together and I-PADEV projects for their innovative approaches and emphasised the importance of sustainable, community-driven solutions in the WASH sector. This recognition further cements Plan International Ghana’s position as a leader in the drive toward achieving SDG 6 in Ghana.
