Pacific girls in a changing climate

We’re supporting girls from the Pacific to play a leading role in adapting their communities to become more resilient to the effects of climate change. Help build a better future by sharing your experiences of climate change.

This is the decade for accelerated, targeted and meaningful climate action.

Climate change poses a profound threat to the lives and livelihoods of island nation communities in the Pacific Ocean.

Pacific nations are at the front line of the most extreme impacts of climate change. They face both slow onset events, including rising sea levels that threaten to drown low lying islands and atolls, and increasingly extreme weather events, such as cyclones and typhoons. These cause displacement, destroy homes and livelihoods and threaten water supplies, among other losses and damages.

In many ways, climate change has placed Pacific nations in a state of protracted crisis which we know affect adolescent girls in ways that are different to women and children.

Plan International is creating safer and brave spaces to provide training for Pacific girls to build confidence and skills for meaningful engagement in climate change adaptation, as well as in national, regional and international strategies, polices and processes.
