Plan started working in Tanzania in 1991. We have a presence in 5

Our longer term Country Goals is, Children and Youth are Empowered, Respected and Responsible.  Under this goal, Plan Country Programs are designed to correspond with the four pillars of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - CRC. Plan International Tanzania has five country programs which are:

Safe Environment for Children and Youth

Plan engages both the duty bearers and rights holders, along with other NGO’s to mobilize and create awareness to support prevention and mitigation strategies aimed at protecting children & youth from all forms of violence which are happening at home, school, in the community and during emergencies.

Fair Start in Early Childhood, Care and Development (ECCD)

Plan positions ECCD and pre-primary education as a priority to achieve children’s rights to education and as a significant entry point for the foundation of social and health skills. The key issues are low priority, access, and participation in ECCD and pre-primary education; Parenting skills and gender inequality in the role of child caring.

Healthy Life

The program covers three areas that contribute to children and youth realizing their right to survival and health: Maternal, Newborn and Child Health; Adolescent sexual and reproductive health and; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

Children and Youth Voice

Children and youth’s right to participation include their right to access and use information, to   communicate their views and to take part in decisions that affect their lives. This program accomplishes this through; Capacity building of Youth and Children’s groups, Teachers, and    Government officials; Media is used as a key channel to communicate the views of children and youth.

Household Economic Security (“KUJIKIMU”)

Plan’s response towards addressing household economic insecurity is centered on three major intervention areas: Financial; Agriculture Productivity and Market linkages and; Business and Enterprise Development. The key issues addressed are; inadequate access to financial services; Low agriculture productivity, poor natural resources management and market linkages; and Limited business opportunities and enterprises development for youth and women.
