Plan International Romania

Plan International works together with children, young people, supporters, and partners to strive for a just world, where we are all equal.

Since March 2022, we’ve worked in Romania to deliver immediate humanitarian aid to children and their families affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

As of December 2023, more than 80,000 refugees from Ukraine are living in Romania.

We collaborate with Romanian civil society organisations who provide support to refugees from Ukraine, including schooling for children from Ukraine, and youth centres for Romanian and Ukrainian young people. Our projects with our partners cover the length and breadth of Romania, delivering services to those in need of support.

Beyond the direct life-saving humanitarian support we provide, we are partnering with local organisations to support children’s rights and equality for girls in Romania.

Our current priorities include:

  • Keeping refugee children safe and providing emotional support for those that have experienced distress
  • Providing parenting sessions and recreational activities for children
  • Vocational training and language courses for families planning to remain in Romania
  • Ensuring children have uninterrupted access to safe, inclusive, quality education through temporary learning spaces and enrolling children into local schools.

Our work in Romania is part of a regional response to the Ukraine crisis which also includes programmes in UkraineMoldova and Poland
