This rapid needs assessment provides recommendations to support the food security and sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable communities in crisis-affected regions of Niger.
Research was conducted by Plan International in crisis-affected regions of Niger in June 2023. This study presents the key results and recommendations to respond to the food security and sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable communities, in particular girls and women.
Key findings
- Girls and women prioritise their food security, even if it means using less appropriate means to manage their menstrual hygiene.
- Their active participation in the search for food is an obstacle to their access to health services.
- By moving away from their homes to contribute to food security, they expose themselves even more to different risks including physical and sexual violence, trafficking, abduction and forced marriage.
