All the 16 countries in the region of the Middle East, Eastern and Southern Africa identify violations of children and girls’ rights as their biggest concern, caused by factors such as retrogressive cultural norms, harmful cultural practices and legal/policy gaps. These form a strong basis for strategic choices by all countries to help improve programmes and achieve better outcomes for children.

MEESAs region programme focus, therefore, aims at reaching over 37 million people, including girls, boys, children, youth and adults, in the different countries between 2019 and 2026.
