Adolescent girls in Crisis

This report shows the experiences of girls affected by migration in Central America and Mexico.

This report is part of Plan International’s global Girls in Crisis research series, which analyses the situation of girls and adolescents in different crisis and emergency contexts.

This report shows how girls experience the effects of crises and emergencies differently, and that external factors have an impact on their growth and development.

The objective of the report is to prepare advocacy recommendations based on the analysis of the impact of forced migration and social or gender-based violence on the rights to education and protection of adolescent girls in the Northern Triangle of Central America, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras and Mexico.

This report explores five major dimensions and their interrelationships: education, social violence, gender-based violence, mobility and migration. It combines quantitative methodology with 267 online surveys of female and male adolescents between 15 and 19 years of age; 8 families and 14 key actors in the context of mobility; and qualitative, interviews (face-to-face and online) and focus groups with adolescents, parents or caregivers, and key actors.
