Where we work in Laos

Plan International is committed to ensuring that all children, and in particular girls, learn, lead, decide and thrive. We work with our local partners in three of the poorest and most vulnerable provinces in Lao PDR Bokeo, Oudomxay and Saravane. We focus our work with communities who experience the highest poverty, and where there is low school enrolment and completion rates, few people with secondary education, poor hygiene, little-to-no access to sanitation, limited safe water access and high levels of child malnutrition.

Where we work in Laos

Laos is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world. Its 6.8 million people are from 49 different ethnic groups, each with its own language, tradition and culture. In the areas where Plan International works, there are more than 40 different languages, in Bokeo alone there are 15 different languages being used to communicate every day.

In 2014, Plan International expanded into Saravane, which is in the southern part of Laos and on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, which has some of the highest amounts of unexploded ordinance in the world. Plan International also works in the far north of the country in Oudomxay and Bokeo which is located in the Golden Triangle.
