The International Day of the Girl (IDG) is commemorated worldwide on October 11th.
For 2024’s International Day of the Girl, Plan International Kenya took part in a vibrant campaign under the theme #GirlsLeadership for its Girl Takeovers where girls and young women were supported to take on a leadership role in a political, economic, or social space around the global campaign theme Girls’ Leadership for the Day.
These engagements acted as influencing and advocacy drivers where girls presented and spoke passionately about their communities, their backgrounds and some of the challenges that they face as well as speak for their peers.
From occupying seats of ambassadors and officials from Government and the private sector, the young girl advocates were mentored into these leadership spaces aimed at standing in solidarity with girls in crisis around the world under the theme #UniteForPeace.
