Plan International Egypt is celebrating International Youth Day with strategic partner and global, science-led biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Egypt Health Foundation and the Non-Communicable Diseases Control Association to support the health of young people.
In partnership with AstraZeneca, Plan International Egypt launched the Young Health Programme in 2021 to deliver tangible and lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of children and young people, especially girls, by promoting their active engagement in decision-making and inclusive spaces to foster sustainable change in their lives as equal and empowered citizens.
Achievements of young health programme
Since its launch the Young Health Programme has succeeded in reaching around 500,000 young people, their parents, and caregivers, through multiple on-ground interventions and partnership with civil society organisations, particularly with AstraZeneca and its support to the programme. Moreover, during its five-year period the Young Health Programme (Egypt) aims to raise awareness of more than 700,000 girls and boys on how to make better choices towards a healthier lifestyle, along with the endorsement of 5 Egyptian ministries and multiple partners.
In addition, the Young Health Programme (Egypt) comes within Plan International’s strategy to empower and enhance the participation of young people, to play active and positive roles towards issues that affect their basic rights regardless of gender. One key issue being health and avoiding non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

The signing ceremony of the agreement was attended by Radwa Tarek, Head of Programme Strategy for Plan International Egypt, Vivian Fekry, Head of Communications and Social Responsibility at AstraZeneca Egypt, Inas Omar, Young Health Programme Manager in Egypt, and representatives of the Ministries of Health and Population, Social Solidarity, Youth and Sports.
