Economic empowerment in the Dominican Republic

Promoting better opportunities for young people’s personal, social and economic development.

Plan International Dominican Republic is committed to providing adolescents and young people between the ages of 15 and 24 with improved skills and opportunities.

Our skilled teams offer advocacy training so that young people have the ability and knowledge to voice their concerns to the relevant bodies. We also enable them to access facilities and knowledge so they are able to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive rights and achieve better social integration.

Through the innovative Young Men for Equality project, young men are encouraged to become involved in community decision making with a view to ensuring lasting attitude changes amongst men and boys in the community. Awareness raising and gender training has so far been carried out with young men between the ages of 15 and 24. The training focuses on gender equality issues, health care and sexual and reproductive rights.

In addition, our Girls Growing Up Happy programme works with adolescent girls to ensure they are educated on topics including financial planning, sexual and reproductive rights, social and economic empowerment, nutrition, rights and participation.
