Myanmar | Plan International Skip to main content

Plan International started working in Myanmar in 2008 in response to Cyclone Nargis. We now work in over 225 communities and have around 200 staff members. Children and their rights are at the centre of everything we do.

We implement projects in 5 states in Myanmar – Rakhine, Mandalay, Kachin, Ayeyarwaddy and Yangon – and currently support 2 ongoing emergency responses in Rakhine State and Kachin.

Plan International is fully committed to ending violence against children and acknowledges that we have a duty to promote the gender responsive safeguarding of children and young people and particularly those with whom we work or are in contact. Plan International Myanmar is committed to implementing the Global Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy, which ensures that:

  •  all who work for and engage with us are skilled, confident, understand, and are well supported in meeting their responsibilities to safeguard children and young people from violence;
  •  we have in place procedures to prevent and deal with the actions/behavior of our staff, associates, visitors or us as an organization that result in violence against a child or young person and/or places them at risk of the same; and
  •  children and young people we work with are aware of our responsibilities to prevent and respond to any harm against them arising from actions and behaviors of our staff, associates and visitors, and, the routes for reporting such incidents.
