Plan International Peru is providing humanitarian aid to 3.100 families through the early childhood kits distribution. The efforts have been focusing on temporary shelters located on the north of the country, where are located around 18,000 affected people due to Piura River overflew on March 27th.
Therefore, 1600 female hygiene kits have been distributed, 1000 safe water kits and 500 early childhood kits. In addition, eight socioemotional support spaces were installed, known in the communities as “Plan of Joy” where more than 600 girls and boys are recovering of the emotional wounds left by the disaster.
Through the Plan of Joy, I’ve learned that no one could harm me and if they try to, I have to reach out to my parents or authorities and tell them everything
Plan of Joy Voices
Rosy: Through the Plan of Joy, I’ve learned that each time I feel lonely I have to do “the pigeon’s flight”, which is to give yourself a strong hug to yourself so you can feel very happy.
Cristian: “Before I use to feel very sad because the river took my animals and toys away and a lot of valuable things for me. Since I come to the Plan of Joy, I’ve started to feel better, because every day I play and learn new things, I can’t hold back my enthusiasm to start school soon and tell my friends all about it”.
María Guadalupe: "Through the Plan of Joy, I’ve learned that no one could harm me and if they try to, I have to reach out to my parents or authorities and tell them everything”.
