Video: Safe Schools in Timor-Leste!

In Timor-Leste, heavy rain and strong winds can result in flooding and landslides and make it very dangerous for children to go to school. Plan International Timor-Leste implemented the Safe School project in 11 schools and the Integration of Disaster Risk Reduction into Child Friendly Schools project in 15 schools to respond to this problem. The objective of both projects was to increase disaster preparedness and awareness in schools and communities by teaching children how to act before, during, and after a disaster to ensure their own safety and the safety of others. The projects were implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education, Norad through Plan International Norge and UNICEF Timor-Leste.
