Plan International Sri Lanka is happy to announce a new partnership with the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) and Plan International Ireland to build a conducive environment that foster active engagement of young men and women in the decision making processes at the local and national level that affect their lives and their future.
This 2 year project titled, Our voice matters! Youth Empowerment, Participation and and Influence to Decision-Making Processes in Sri Lanka”, is aimed to equip 160 young men and women from divisional youth federations of Monaragala and Anuradhapura districts, with skills, knowledge and resources to be active community leaders. On one hand the project aims to build capacity of these young men and women to be active participants in the community through engagement with local institutions. On the other hand, the project aims to facilitate local government institutions to align their policies, practices and budgets to the needs and interests of the young people in the area. In doing this, the youth will also be supported to implement youth-led advocacy initiatives to bring sustainable changes in the delivery of citizenship services.
To ensure the sustainability of the project, Plan International Sri Lanka will work with 255 youth representatives of the Sri Lanka Youth Parliament to provide them with better advocacy and policy influencing skills to engage with political consultations with national institutions. The National Youth Services Council Sri Lanka is the joint government partner that supports the implementation of the project.
