Healthy start in Rwanda

Ensuring all children receive the best start in life

Plan International Rwanda is committed to ensuring that children receive the best start in life. We support children’s first 1,000 days of life through our comprehensive Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) programme, which incorporates nutrition, de-worming and ECCD practices. We partner up with communities to conduct awareness raising campaigns on the importance of the first 1,000 days of life and the role of parents, teachers and caregivers in administering appropriate healthcare and nutrition during this time.

Last year, 40 community health workers gained access to health screening for children in Plan’s Gatsibo programme unit, and micronutrients were provided to 1631 children aged four to six years – some of whom suffered from malnutrition - enrolled in 15 community-led centres.

Meanwhile, we are training communities about the importance of early learning for young children, including sessions on teaching and child discipline so that parents and community volunteers know how to prepare children for primary education.
